ESL Sheltered Instruction 3 (online)
Teachers will continue to learn teaching techniques and strategies that will enhance curriculum and support multilingual/emergent bilingual student learning in any environment. Techniques nd strategies (that promote listening, speaking, reading, and writing across the content areas) will help to support English Language Learners and will be based on the Total Participation Techniques: Making Every Student an Active Learner 2nd Edition by Persida Himmele and William Hemmele.
This course is the third course offering and should be taken AFTER THE ESL SHELTERED INSTRUCTION 1 (ONLINE) COURSE. ESL Sheltered Instruction 1 focuses on the 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners and provides information and demographic data that is specific to Hawaii’s student population. This course was developed to meet the Sheltered Instruction requirement. ESL Sheltered Instruction 1, ESL Sheltered Instruction 2, and ESL Sheltered Instruction 3 can be used to meet the Sheltered Instruction Qualification via Option 2, Completion of two (2) three credit PDE3 courses or may use one of these course to count towards the (1) three credit PDE3 course for option 7 Combination of Options 1 and 2. Dates: September 30, 2022 through December 28, 2022 (Portfolio Due November 30, 2022)
Participants will receive instructions from the instructors on how to access course content prior to the start date of the course, information will be sent to the email that you have listed in PDE3 (most cases it is an @k12.hi.us email). The deadline to pay for this course is September 29, 2022
