Due to DOE delays in developing the new PD platform, the HSTA PD Department is not offering any new PD courses. We are working with the DOE as they continue to develop and train instructors. We will provide new courses once the platform is finalized and launched for course submissions. We thank you in advance for your patience.

Why HSTA believes in professional development
Hawaii State Teachers Association teachers are deeply committed to every student’s success. We want all students to achieve their full potential as individuals and become productive citizens who make positive contributions to society.
We believe that educators provide the stable, nurturing, inspiring environment that makes it possible to teach each student and provide individual attention to each student’s learning needs. To this end, we work to ensure that every student has a qualified, caring educator.
We believe that we must change the way educators are recruited, trained, evaluated, supported, and held accountable. We believe we must raise the bar for what it means to be a quality educator by focusing on preparing new educators for the classroom, attracting and retaining educators, providing continuous, high quality professional development for all educators, and promoting effective teachers and quality educators.
We believe that HSTA is one key to achieving these core areas of professional excellence. Through expanding your learning opportunities, you will ensure that all students in Hawaii’s public schools have the benefit of qualified, caring, committed educators throughout their school years.
The Benefits of HSTA Professional Development
As an HSTA member, your course deposits are automatically reimbursed on any PD course you complete, excluding National Board courses. You will be asked to pay a $150 deposit when you sign up for a course. HSTA IPD reimburses this deposit as long as funds are available in our budget.
Reimbursement is automatic (while funds are available); nothing needs to be done by the member. Once the course has ended (based on the course end date, not the date portfolios are submitted) and your instructor provides the HSTA IPD Department with proof of completion, your deposit will be returned to you as a check. Reimbursements can take six to eight weeks to process after the close of a course. It may take longer if you take an incomplete and extend your time. Make sure your current mailing address through HSTA Membership is up to date so your refund is not delayed.
