Numbers Make Sense (HYBRID)

Before paying, please double-check that you can commit to being online from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 21st and July 22nd. There will be a lunch break around 12 and independent reflection time at the end of each day starting about 3 p.m.

This professional development course describes the pedagogy of number sense with references to culturally responsive mathematics teaching practices, thus using Singapore as a model example of a coherent mathematics curriculum. Educators will be introduced to practical classroom strategies to enhance their teaching and provide an enhanced mathematical environment for students. Participants will explore number sense to build a stronger foundation of number understanding. Learn how to use the Concrete-Pictorial (representational or semi-concrete)- Abstract approach, which promotes understanding abstract concepts starting from a concrete foundation. The course’s infused elements are based in Hawai’i and provide a real-world context and relevance.

This section will have two REQUIRED online synchronous days from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 21st and July 22nd.

Once you make payment and HSTA approves your enrollment on Learnsoft, check your DOE @k12.hi.us email for communication from the instructor.

Learnsoft Incident 81614: Numbers Make Sense (Hybrid)
Dates: July 21, 2025, through December 19, 2025 (Portfolio due November 1, 2025)

This section is entirely online and begins on July 21, 2025. The deadline to pay for this course is noon July 20, 2025 . Participants will be emailed instructions on how to access their online course. If you have any questions regarding the course, don’t hesitate to contact the instructor directly.
Once the course has been completed and the HIDOE has accepted all portfolios, the instructor will submit the required information to reimburse the course deposit for all participants. There is no need to do anything to process this but to complete the course. It will take up to three months for the reimbursements to be sent based on the new course timelines with Learnsoft.
