This course is designed for teachers of all content areas in grade levels 3-12. Teachers will learn a variety of strategies to formatively assess student learning and respond to student needs quickly and effectively. The coursework is grounded in The Seven Strategies for Formative Instruction by Jan Chappuis, which include Providing students with clear learning targets, Using examples of strong and weak work, Offering regular feedback, Teaching students to self-assess and setting goals, Design lessons to focus on one learning goal at a time, Teacher students focused revision, and Engage students in self-reflection. With these overarching strategies in mind, participants will engage in learning about specific approaches and techniques to bring these strategies to their classes and engage in a meaningful formative instruction cycle with their students.
